Police have registered a formal case against two Personal Security Officers of Bhartiya Janata Party MLC for resorting to aerial firing and assaulting a man on Srinagar-Jammu highway.

Reports said that one of the security guards of BJP MLC, Sofi Yousuf fired a round in air after they entered into an argument with a man whom police identified as Saleem Ahmed Wani at Banihal. Reports added that a vehicle part of Sofi Yousuf’s escort was driven by his son who tried to overtake Wani near Banihal. AS Wani didn’t pave way for the escort vehicle, the security guards alighted from the vehicle and as per witnesses thrashed him. The locals present there came to rescue Wani, while in a bid to free themselves, one of the security guards fired a round in the air, thus creating panic in the area.

Witnesses told news agency CNS that, Wani was thrashed by security guards and Sofi’s son, a charge refuted by Sofi Yousuf who alleged that Wani provoked people who resorted to sloganeering. Saleem Wani, the former BJP State General Secretary Minority Morcha filed a complaint against the security guards and accordingly police registered an FIR against the two PSO’s who were identified as Javaid Ahmed and Muhammad Nawaz. “Saleem Wani who has registered complaint in the police resorted to hooliganism and tried to snatch weapons from my security guards part of my escort. We have also lodged a counter complaint at police station,” MLC Sofi Yousuf said.
